Born to Run

A coworker suggested that I read this book because he knew I had a "love"running. If you didn't know one of my life goals/dreams is to run a marathon. I have had this goal for 5 years but still to this day I can only get myself to run ATLEAST 4 miles. I get on this kick where I am going out for a run every day but once I miss a day...i miss one other...then another..till I haven't been going for 2 months (or longer). Once I start up again I am back to square one killing myself to get one mile done.

When I 1st started to take up running I did it because I wanted to loose weight but soon learned this was a way for me to collect my thoughts of a stressful day, to breath in fresh air and enjoy the beauty around me. It was more than loosing it weight, it was something that made me happier and something I realized I loved doing.

While listening to this book (yes I listen to it....its legit) I keep on reflecting on my dream. It shouldn't take a normal person 5 years or even longer to train for a marathon. Yes I have ran 2 5K's (which I am proud about), but shouldn't I be farther in this dream of mine? What is holding me back?

Born to Run tells a story of an amazing tribe in Mexico. They run for days on end without stopping and whats crazy is they don't get hurt, they don't tire out, and they run in sandals. They run through horrible terrine and at night with out any light. Long story short, an outsider found out about this tribe and wanted to form a team who would run one of the most legit races, Leadville Trail. A 100 mile ultramarathon in Colorado. Death. (Read about it). Not only did they finish this race and won...they broke records.

So back to my question, Whats holding me back? Confidence that I can actually run a marathon. I hit that 4 mile mark and think that is all my body's got. The book mentions that we are Born to Run. Its in our nature to run. So believe it or not..I can do this. I wont stop this time around...i was born to do this...even if it breaks me in the end.

Ps...they talk a lot about trail running in this book. Anyone want to join me this summer in some good old Saturday Morning trail running? I don't want to get kidnapped... :)

Short and to the point

Its amazing to me what one day can do to a person.

Tuesday was that day for me. I woke up that morning praying that something good would happen in my life. That something would change. Right then I decided that I don't like being sad. Being sad gets you no where in life and it wont help you in any situation. I went to work with a positive attitude and promised myself not to think any negative thoughts.
That night I was able to serve in the Temple. I begged and pleaded with my Heavenly Father that I would be Becca Hall again and not this sad, negative, angry person. I walked away that night changed. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I know who I am. I know that I am a daughter of God and He loves me. I know that no one in this world can make me feel like I am not good enough. Because I am an amazing, wonderful, happy person! I am Becca Hall!

"If God brings you to it; He will bring you through it"

January...Oh I am so glad to see you almost behind me. I have felt like this whole month has been against me. I haven't been myself. I have been very pessimistic and everything bothers me. (Not me right?)
I haven't even really told anyone my struggles because I hate to admit something is wrong. I don't like people knowing this part of me. And I guess saying it on the blog..defeats that..oh well. Hey world...sorry I am not Perfect!

For awhile now I have been wanting to write down positive things that happen to me through out the day, in hopes to out weigh my negativity and anger. I have been thinking about them for awhile and just need to do it. And on those hard days I can go back and read them, which hopefully will raise my spirits.
I also hope to add to this daliy. You don't have to read..its more for my benefit :)

  1. I am reminded of this every Monday; when I go to the bathroom at work and see the seat up. Its happy to know that I am the 1st one to use a clean toilet.

  2. Co workers who keep me laughing

  3. Reading blogs; particularly Mandi W, Leah P, and Sister Durr's. Side Note: Mandi if you ever read this...I adore your blog. I started reading it when the twins were born. Lets just say tears streamed down my face and many prayers were said in behalf of your family. I love seeing those boys so healthy and happy. Reminds me constantly that our Heavenly Father is near and does hear our prayers.

  4. Random phone calls from my mom, just seeing if I am okay.

  5. When my dad takes me out to dinner and helps with the "manly" stuff at my house

  6. The Davis and Canasta. Enough said.

  7. Taking the Sacrament

  8. The Temple, the only place I have felt comfort and love for awhile

  9. H-Bugs running hugs

  10. Knowing that I am going to DC in April to see my awesome niece get baptised.

  11. Our new addition to the family, I love new babies.

  12. Having my brother Alan randomly call me (even if I don't pick up all the time) just to talk.

  13. Finally having a talk with Ashlee who sees me for me and still loves me...even if I have been so distant.

  14. Laughing with Amanda about our Ukraine adventures.

  15. Mindy Gledhall, I can listen to her CD and immediately feel better!

  16. Oooo new one..speaking of CD's...Ingrid Michelson's new CD..and her concert in April!

  17. Funny..but phone calls (happy ones) with my customers out of state. I love talking about the weather, University of Utah, and the Jazz. Those old men make me laugh.

  18. Hearing Snap talk about her love for Oakcrest. Rejuvenated mine.

  19. Working out/Running

  20. Pinterest

  21. Weather this winter. Anxiety of driving in snow...none! (so far!)

  22. Random get together with Michelle and Paige. Adore both of them. And LOVE the talks I get to have with Michelle.

More to come :)

Ps this has helped writing them down. If any of you feel down in the dumps..I highly recommend it. These happy/positive moments definitely outweigh any negative thoughts I have been having.

2011 Recap

As I think back on this year I have to smile. Twenty Eleven was such an amazing year mostly because I learned a lot about myself and who I really am. I became closer to my Heavenly Father and my testimony grew 10 fold. But don't get me wrong it wasn't all rainbows and unicorns, to be able to grow I had to be tested and had some trials that I wish never to repeat. But I rather not talk about those!

Some 2011 highlights!
  • River 10th YSA Branch Not all of us but a good amount (and some randoms)
We were small but united and cared about each other. (Well at least I thought this....if not don't tell me!). I was pulled out of my comfort zone while being Relief Society President. The Lord prepared me for this but I never knew how much this calling asked for. And plus we only had 15 girls...it made me appreciated all those RS presidents who have 50+ women to help. Like I said even though we were small, I wouldn't ask for a better group of girls. I learned a lot from them. Plus, I couldn't ask for a better presidency. They were fabulous, definitely helped me know what to do and how to handle different situations. Lastly, I couldn't have done all of this with out President Davis. Such an amazing man, that helped me become who I am today. Without him I know, actually I am positive I wouldn't be where I am now. Wait...Last of the last...I couldn't have done this with out my Heavenly Father and Brother Christ.

  • May 7, 2011

Must say that this is one of my happiest moments in my life. For the longest time people would ask me when I would receive my endowments, I never felt ready. After going to do baptisms in March/April I felt like it was time. I began talking with my dad and mom about the impressions I receiving, I could not deny what I felt but at the same time this is NOT how I planned it. I always thought I would receive my endowments like every other normal LDS girl...when I got married. However, the Lord had a different plan for me. After a long hard month I finally was able to walk in those doors at the Jordan River Temple and receive precious blessings that I needed.

Ps: One of the best moments there...seeing my beautiful camper, Kelli receiving hers also. Kinda a proud mommy moment (even if she was only with me for 3 days!).

  • Turning the BIG 25
  • Out of every birthday I have had...turning 25 was the hardest. I actually have never had issues with my birthdays until now. I think I just thought I would be at a different place at my life when I was 25 but that hasn't happened yet. I have learned that the Lord has a plan for me and even though it may not be going how I wish, I need to keep on going on with my life and do the right things. I will be blessed for waiting. I cant dwell on what I don't have and perfect what I do.

  • Ordnance Worker
  • Remember how I love love love the temple? I think I let everyone I come in contact with know that. One of the biggest highlights of my year is being able to work at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. I have learned so much and each time I am serving I walk away a better person.

  • Baby E-bug! I am blessed to have such an amazing best friend and she gave birth to one beautiful daughters of God. E has been a blessing in my life, why? Shes not mine and I hardly see her but it has brought me closer to Amanda and Matt. Its amazing what babies can do :) ( I did have a picture loaded...but its not working)

I am excited for what 2012 will bring!

Ps...sorry this looks bad...having a hard time making it all uniform...blasted blogger!

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.
15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
25. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
28. Is it just me or do high school kids get dumber & dumber every year?
29. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate bicyclists.
31. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
32. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my ass everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!
